NEW DELHI: The COVID-19 test positivity rate in the national capital reached 0.08% on Tuesday, which is the highest figure in 22 days.

The daily fresh cases also increased to 41. This is the highest number of daily cases recorded in Delhi since October 7, when 44 people tested positive in a span of 24 hours.

A health bulletin released by the state government on Tuesday stated that 50,202 tests were conducted in 24 hours. A total of 34,143 tests were done using RT-PCR/CBNAAT/TrueNat, while the rest of the tests (16,059) were done with Rapid Antigen kits. The results for 41 people returned positive.

The number of active cases in the city stood at 323. The total COVID-19 tally in Delhi stood at 14,39,630, the eighth highest among all states across the country. Overall, 25,091 people have died due to COVID-19 in the city since the start of the pandemic.

The city has recorded four deaths due to COVID in October thus far. Last month, five deaths related to COVID-19 were recorded.

Dr Rommel Tickoo, director, internal medicine, at Max Hospital, said that several people are roaming around in markets without wearing a mask or maintaining social distance. He added that the pandemic is not over. Dr Tickoo said that fresh cases are still coming and if COVID-appropriate behavior is not followed, a surge incases may be seen again.

Medical director at Lok Nayak Hospital, Dr Suresh Kumar, said that fever OPDs are full with cases of fever mostly due to vector-borne diseases, including dengue and malaria.

The emergence of a new sub-variant of the Delta strain of coronavirus is also a cause for concern.
